On 17 March 2006, FIFA announced the ten South African stadiums that will host the 19th Football Planet Cup from 11 June 2010 — the initial ever World Cup on African soil. Spot Image, a subsidiary of EADS-Astrium, presents these 10 stadiums, as noticed from room by the Kompsat-two satellite. 5 of the stadiums have been renovated and the encompassing regions enhanced. The other five have been specially built. These satellite photos present how the stadiums — a symbol of the new confront of South Africa — integrate with the urban landscape.
South Africa is gearing up to host the 2010 football World Cup, to be played in 10 stadiums in 9 cities across the region. It is the 1st time the tournament has been held in an African country and the nation is justly proud. This prolonged footage ahead of the 100-day countdown was filmed by Joao Duarte, Al Jazeera’s senior cameraman based in South Africa.
